Chemical peeling is one of the most
effective ways to combat skin aging. Chemical peels are one of the most
frequently performed aesthetic procedures in North America.
Chemical solutions may be applied
to the skin to remove outer layers of aged, discoloured skin. Depending
on the specific type and concentration of the chemical used, the skin
exfoliates or peels over a period of days, leaving behind a new refreshed
skin that is smoother, has fewer wrinkles and is more even in colour.
Another benefit is a reduction of sebum overproduction and acne breakouts.
Facial peels are often used to treat
wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, skin discolouration, age spots,
mild acne scars and dull skin. They may range from mild peels (for fine
lines and wrinkles) to medium-depth peels (for moderate skin damage
such as age spots, freckles and sun damage). A series of treatments
every three to four weeks is usually recommended.
